Most people who know me know that I am not a man to hold back on the criticism front so believe me when I say this is the best small press comic of 2007.

I do not make that statement lightly, for this is a painfully personal, beautifully written work illustrated in a raw, loose, personal style whose amateurish look only serves to compliment the style of writing. Like I said, there is nothing about this book that could be changed without reducing its effectiveness and as such it is an example of how small press should be and what it should be about.

Written as part of the ICA’s 24 hour comic event, in which a creator has to make a twenty-four page comic in as many hours, Andy opted to create a tribute to his recently deceased grandmother, Eileen Lucas. To describe it in any more detail would be to spoil the subtle moments within. But I cried and laughed in equal measure, and at no point did this comic wallow or stoop into teenage angst as so many autobiographical pieces have done about so much less.

If you do not own this comic, you should.
