Benjamin Dickson is one of the best writers on the UK Independent Comic scene. What leads me to say this can be summed up in two words. Falling Sky.

At 72 (or so) pages this is a thick little comic with a nice colour cover, and at £7.99 it may feel a little expensive, but believe me it's worth every penny. Imagine you are part of a Government Select Group, and have invested a small fortune to buy yourself and your family space in a shelter that will see you survive any catastrophic event on a global scale. Imagine then that the world is about to be hit by a meteor and you find yourself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Time is running out and you have been kidnapped and held for ransom.

The art, also by Benjamin, is photorealistic, but has stylised feel to it that works well with the story about real people going through a pretty dramatic sequence of events. It reminded me in tone of a Kiwi film (if memory serves) called This Quiet Earth.

Not a comic for someone seeking superhero thrills and spills, but if you want something that is deeper and ultimately more rewarding then I recommend you have a go at this.
