Andy Winter has been writing comics for a few years now and whilst I could never quite get into his Devilchild books this one is right on target. The opening scene leads you into what appears to be a regular run of the mill superhero story, with Power Chord interrupting a dockside robbery. Unfortunately for him this isn't your typical superhero book and by page 5 he is feeding the fishes.
Very strong black and white art from Declan Shalvey combine with crisp dialogue and a well paced script to give you one of the best Independent UK comics of the year.
OK, it's not amazingly original these days to see the bad guys killing people, super and otherwise, but there are some nice surprises here and it leaves you wanting to find out what happens next. The only disappointment for me was that this is a one shot ... C'mon Andy ... make it a double.
